Burgh Business Centre Renovation, South Lanarkshire Council
This project was undertaken on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council Regeneration Services and was to develop and implement design proposals for converting the dilapidated former Grade B Listed Victorian primary school into a modern business centre for use by local small and medium sized business and community groups. As part of our service we also undertook detailed access audits to ensure the new design was fully inclusive and provided full access and DDA compliance. This included the installation of ramped access and new glazed feature lift which provides full access to all levels. The project won a GIA Commendation for Conservation award.
Construction work involved a sensitive restoration process as the building was returned to its original form with original features being protected and restored wherever possible. Modern interventions were made throughout the building, but these were sympathetic to the original style and design. The bespoke atrium lift, glass balustrades, glass fire screens and lighting are all well considered and sensitive and help enhance the historical Victorian details. The well-considered fusion of new and old features provides the building with a rich vitality for the 21st century.
Works included:
- Full Feasibility and Concept Design
- Architectural Design
- Statutory and Listed Building Consents
- Interior Design & Space Planning
- Full Conservation and Heritage Services
